Tamer Coskun, Hasan Onur Arik, A.Gursel Leblebicioglu.

Abstract
Introduction: Accurate diagnosis of osteoid osteoma is the essential element for surgical planning aim of the present paper was to emphasize the importance of diagnostic imaging to detect nidus location clearly for diagnosis and treatment of the osteoid osteoma of the proximal phalanx.
Patients and Methods: Four patients underwent a surgical procedure for osteoid osteoma of the proximal phalanx between July 2008 and October 2009. Surgical excision was performed following detection of the exact location of the nidus. No recurrence was detected in any of the patients during the follow-up period.
Conclusion: Diagnosis made with sufficient radiological examination and surgical planning made according to the nidus localization is the more appropriate approach for the treatment of osteoid osteoma. The patients presented an excellent clinical recovery through complete removal of the nidus.

Key words: Osteoid osteoma, nidus, proximal phalanx
